Norway

Enchanting and memorable days in the far north

This winter journey combines some of Norway’s most breathtaking natural landscapes and railway experiences into a scenic route between coastline, fjords and mountain plateaus. From Trondheim to Bergen via the spectacular Atlantic Road, discover Norway in all its winter beauty.

TRAVEL ITINERARY

Day 1: 27 February 2027 / Arrival
You travel by coach to Frankfurt Airport for your flight to Trondheim. Depending on your arrival time, you will explore the city either in the afternoon or the following morning during a guided tour. The highlight is the impressive Nidaros Cathedral, Norway’s most important religious monument. Along the Nidelva River, the city’s iconic wooden warehouses stand on stilts above the water, while the historic Gamle Bybro bridge leads to the charming Bakklandet district with its colourful wooden houses and cosy cafés.

Day 2: 28 February 2027 / Kristiansund
Your journey continues along the diverse coastline of Central Norway. Narrow fjords cut deep into the landscape, small islands rest peacefully offshore and charming villages offer a glimpse into the quiet daily life of the region. In the afternoon, you arrive in Kristiansund, a harbour town spread across several islands. The town has a long history as a centre of dried cod production, a tradition that still shapes its identity today.

Day 3: 01 March 2027 / Atlantic Road – Molde – Åndalsnes
South of Kristiansund begins one of Norway’s most spectacular road sections: the Atlantic Road. Sweeping bridges connect tiny islands and skerries, most famously the dramatic Storseisundet Bridge. Travelling onwards through Molde, renowned for its panorama of snow-covered peaks, you continue your route. A ferry crossing from Sølsnes to Åfarnes reveals new views across the Romsdal Fjord. Afterwards, the journey follows the Romsdalen Valley to Åndalsnes, dramatically surrounded by steep mountain walls including the famous Troll Wall.

Day 4: 02 March 2027 / Golden Train
This morning, one of the highlights of the journey awaits: a ride aboard the Golden Train through the Romsdalen Valley. Large panoramic windows offer stunning views of frozen waterfalls and vast winter landscapes while combining comfort with unforgettable scenery. Back in Åndalsnes, the journey continues by road. After the ferry crossing from Linge to Eidsdal, you travel onwards to Geiranger. During the quiet winter season, the famous fjord village reveals a peaceful and atmospheric charm far away from the busy summer months.

Day 5: 03 March 2027 / Geiranger – Loen – Skei
In the morning, you cruise from Geiranger to Hellesylt through the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord. The route continues past frozen lakes and snowy landscapes towards Loen. Optionally, you may take the Loen Skylift to Mount Hoven, where breathtaking panoramic views over the Nordfjord await. In the afternoon, your journey continues to Skei on the shores of Lake Jølstravatnet.

Day 6: 04 March 2027 / Sognefjord – Flåm Railway – Bergen Railway
Today’s stage begins at the Sognefjord, which you cross by ferry from Manheller to Fodnes. During the crossing, magnificent views unfold across the deep fjord landscape. In Flåm, you board the world-famous Flåm Railway, which climbs steep gradients through narrow valleys towards Myrdal. Here, you continue on the Bergen Railway across the snowy mountain plateau towards Norway’s west coast. As you approach Bergen, the scenery gradually changes until you finally arrive in the colourful harbour city.

Day 7: 05 March 2027 / Bergen – Leisure Time
During a guided city tour, you discover the charm of Bergen. In the historic Bryggen district, narrow wooden buildings reflect the city’s Hanseatic heritage, while the lively fish market still showcases Bergen’s maritime traditions. Historic fortifications and churches further shape the cityscape. The afternoon is free at leisure. Optionally, you may take the Fløibanen funicular to Mount Fløyen and enjoy panoramic views over the harbour, rooftops and surrounding mountains.

Day 8: 06 March 2027 / Return Journey
In the morning, there is still time for a final stroll through Bergen or a coffee overlooking the harbour. Afterwards, transfer to the airport for your return journey to Luxembourg.
